Batch of Eight Slotted Carrier Blocks with Wire-Cut Comb Profile
Eight identical carrier blocks with a deep open slot, wire-cut notch rows down both walls, a keyway and bushed holes, machined from one setup and measured together on the granite plate so any block interchanges.

What The Project Asked For
A handling equipment builder ordered a batch of eight identical carrier blocks: a deep open-ended slot with a row of small square notches down both walls, a keyway groove, two bushed holes and a raised tongue on the back face. The notches are smaller than a cutter can reach into, so the notch profile along the slot walls is wire cut.
On a batch like this the set is the deliverable. Any one of the eight has to interchange with the others in the assembly, so the blocks were milled from one setup and the notch rows cut with the same program and datum.
The set was measured together on the granite plate, the notch pitch was checked along each slot, and the bushed holes were reamed for a press fit.

How This Project Ran
What the drawing asked for, how the part was machined and inspected, and what was shipped at the end.
A batch of identical parts fails when one piece drifts out of family and reaches the assembly, and the notch rows along the slot walls are too small for a milling cutter. The tongue on the back face and the bushed holes have to hold a fit in the customer’s assembly, so the blocks had to be checked as a set rather than one representative piece.
All eight blocks were milled from one setup so the slot, keyway and tongue reference the same datum on every piece. The notch rows were wire cut with one program from the same datum edge. The bushed holes were reamed for the press fit. The eight blocks were measured together on the granite plate for slot depth, tongue height and set consistency, and the notch pitch was checked along each slot with the vision measuring system.
All eight blocks measured within family and interchanged in the customer’s assembly. The batch was delivered with a set-level inspection record rather than a single sample check.
