Automation equipment is built from parts that have to fit other parts you already own. What Changes When We Machine For CNC Machining for Industrial Automation

Most automation parts are aluminum plates and brackets, and the risk on those is not the tolerance on the drawing but the flatness after the part is released from the fixture and the fit after anodizing. We rough, release, and finish thin plates with light passes, and we machine fit features to a pre-coating size when a finish is specified.

The second risk is the repeat order. A part reordered after a design change, with the old revision still on file, is the most common way an automation supplier ships the wrong part in good faith.
