Overview

What These Parts Have To Do

The working conditions, the fits, and the acceptance rules that shape how we quote and machine for CNC Machining for Electronics & Robotics.

Electronics and robotics parts are small-feature parts. A connector tooling insert has slots narrower than any cutter can enter, a robot gripper has a pocketed plate carrying pads, fingers and a manifold, and a laminate insulator bracket has a row of small holes through a thin section. Each of those is a different process problem, and the same shop has to solve all three.

For slots and profiles below cutter size we wire cut. For thin laminate and plastic sections we back the exit face and drill last so holes do not break out. For anodized robot parts we machine fit features to a pre-coating size and finish the batch together so the colour and texture match across the assembly.

Small features are measured optically. Slot widths, hole rows and small pitches on these parts are below what hand tools measure honestly, so they are checked on the vision measuring system, and a ganged feature is checked for its accumulated dimension as well as its pitch.

Material choice on insulating parts is yours to specify. Tell us the laminate or plastic grade, the voltage or temperature it sees and which face is the datum. Those three answers decide the material, the backing method and the order of operations.

Key Requirements

What The Drawings Usually Demand

The recurring requirements on CNC Machining for Electronics & Robotics drawings, and what each one means for how the part is machined and checked.

Small Features

Slots, blades and hole rows below cutter size are wire cut, and features below hand-tool resolution are measured on the vision measuring system.

Thin Sections

Laminate and plastic sections are backed at the exit face and drilled last so holes and thin webs stay clean at breakout.

Position Across An Assembly

Grippers and mounts are machined so the pad, finger and manifold positions agree with the base plate they bolt to, then assembled and checked as one unit.

Cosmetic Consistency

Anodized parts from one assembly are finished as one batch so colour and texture match across the machine.

Insulation And Material Choice

The insulating grade is specified by you and machined as specified; substitutions are proposed before the quote, never made silently.

Typical Applications

Where These Parts End Up

The assemblies and equipment that CNC Machining for Electronics & Robotics buyers most often source machined parts for.

Connector tooling inserts and blades

Wire-cut blade packs, formed contact blades and locating plates for connector stamping tooling, with slot widths below cutter size.

Robot end-of-arm tooling

Pocketed base plates, anodized manifolds, stainless guide fingers and urethane pads, machined and assembled as one deliverable.

Laminate insulator brackets

Two-part machined laminate bracket sets with rows of small drilled holes and stepped bodies, backed during drilling.

Small carriers and nest blocks

Slotted carrier blocks with wire-cut comb profiles and small nest blocks with twin locating windows, checked as a set.

Sensor mounts and housings

Anodized aluminum mounts, housings and links with contoured pockets, finished to match the rest of the machine.

Before You Commit

Every CNC Machining for Electronics & Robotics Quote Comes With DFM Notes

Owen reads the drawing before pricing it: tolerances that add cost, features that need a second setup, finishes that change lead time. Send a STEP or PDF with the material and quantity, and the quote reflects what is actually machinable, within 24 hours on business days.

Manufacturing Considerations

What Changes When We Machine For CNC Machining for Electronics & Robotics

The process boundary on these parts is cutter size. Anything narrower than a cutter can enter is a wire EDM feature, and the profile is cut after heat treatment when the part is hardened, so the finished feature is not carrying distortion from the furnace.

Laminates and engineering plastics need different handling from aluminum: they chip at unsupported exits and move with temperature and moisture. We back thin sections during drilling, drill the hole row last, and state the temperature a tight fit applies at when we measure it.

Cosmetic consistency across a robot assembly is a batch decision. Anodized parts from one assembly go through the coater together and are inspected side by side, so a manifold and its base plate do not come back in two different shades.
